The contract is between the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) Group and Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co. Ltd (Hyundai E&C) from the Republic of Korea.
The Mong Duong 1 plant is one of two thermal power plants at the Mong Duong Electricity Centre approved by the Prime Minister.
The plant will cover an area of 55 hectares and include two turbines with a total capacity of 1,080 MW. The investment for the plant is sourced from Asian Development Bank (ADB) loans and EVN capital.
The plant’s first and second turbines will be completed and put into operation in the first and third quarter of 2015, respectively, and will provide around 6.5 billion kWh of electricity annually for the national grid.
